ACMS PTO Minutes
September 13, 2017

Present: Hien Larson, Stephanie Bragg, Kari Chalstrom, Coral Cavanagh, Stacy Russell, Tony Sabatella, Kristi Bell, Jenny Suh, Heather Runge, Lori Clemente, Marie Desmond; Sue Steph, Erin Casey, Yvonne Moore, Jenifer Standteiner, Lucy Hodges
Meeting called to order at 7:45
Introductions and Welcome
Mrs. Larson made a motion to elect Stephanie Bragg and Kari Chalstrom as co-presidents. Jennifer Standteiner seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously.

Principal’s Update

• ACMS is growing and the class sizes are being maintained at the right levels
• Please encourage other parents to pull forward on the 6th/8th grade side and avoid the bus lane on the 7th grade side
• ACMS Safety Team meets once a month; consists of teachers, students and parents; currently discussing the dress code
• ACMS will host a parent night to discuss social media; the night is presented by Common Sense Media
• Spirit week is next week; the Fall dance is September 22; open to all Middle Schools in the District; cost is $20
• ACMS has a Facebook page; Mrs. Larson monitors content; ACMS PTO just created a Facebook page and after discussion the decision is that it will be a closed page and only available to people once admitted by the Facebook site administrator
• Conference week is October 23-27; conferences are student led; parents will receive sign up options by the end of September

Co-Presidents’ Discussion

• Open PTO Positions – they remain open

1. Treasurer to maintain bank account; process expense reports and reimbursements; submit monthly Treasurer reports
2. Secretary to maintain and publish meeting minutes
3. Fundraising Lead to explore fundraising options for the PTO

• PTO events during the school year

1. Yvonne Moore and Jenny Suh volunteered to set up sign up genius for honor roll breakfast and for conference week
2. Honor Roll breakfast – 3 times a year
3. Lucy Hodges volunteered to work with Kathy Tanner to organize and set up
4. Conference week October 23-27

• Cougar News: Mrs. Larson agreed to add a paragraph in the weekly Cougar News for the PTO including a link to the sign up genius when applicable
• Budget: There were discussions among the group about how much money PTO needs to raise and what does the money go to. The PTO contributes to offset transportation costs for the grade field trip for each grade. PTO also contributes to raffle prizes for the staff and teachers.  Everyone is invited to offer ideas for fundraisers and other uses of PTO funds.
• The School Supply kits raised $720; the alternative fundraiser last year raised $4000. The current bank balance is $3275
• Discussion whether the meetings should be in the mornings or afternoons, possibility of every other month meet in the afternoon; Mrs. Larson offered to have a teacher representative at each meeting and a student from the Leadership group.
